White Billowing Smoke

Last night, i was driving down pacific street...a beautiful curvy street that winds around lake union and has the most tremendous view of the city at night...talking to my friend anna about her plans to come visit me (yippee)-when all of a sudden, something loud pops and white smoke starts billowing out from underneath my hood! HA. so i calmly tell anna that my car just blew up and i have to hang up now.
after pulling over, i jet out of my car with my cell phone and keys in fear that the entire contraption might just up and burst into flames or explode like they always do in the movies. in that instantaneous moment, the thought crossed my mind that i might go flying through the air if it did indeed combust. well, fortunately nothing caught on fire and it turns out that i blew my radiator hose right open...as a result of a potentially bad thermostat. i call my dad-not home; i call my brother, TWICE-not picking up; so i finally call a friend who knows about cars and he comes over. by the time he arrived, i had gotten through to my dad and we determined that the 'smoke' was really steam, which had mostly dissipated by now and that the situation was entirely under control-ha.
now picture this, it's mid-february in seattle. cold, dark (b/c it was night time) and i've just pulled over in a moment of haste-right in front of a fire hydrant. so not only can i not see what's wrong with my car, but it is now parked haphazardly in a spot that those pesky 'ticketing officers' are sure penalize me for. probably the only thing that could have made the situation worse would have been pouring rain-which for once, it was not doing (can you tell that i'm a bit tired of it after our horrendous winter :0) ).
blah, blah, blah...the story continues and to make a long story short-the hose was only $15 dollars, no one was hurt, my car didn't explode, and after a replacement thermostat is installed, i should be in golden shape again. AH....the adventures of the inner female mechanic-she lives for moments like these.

Vancouver

So, i've been wanting to go to Vancouver, B.C. for a while now and I had a three day weekend recently. All my friends were busy and couldn't go, so i went by myself. it was amazing! the day was absolutely gorgeous, and I had a great time exploring the bustling and diverse city. I went to Granville Island, Stanley Park, another park and downtown. Here's a few pics.
